is it honestly worth it ? corgi help

In many instances with these groups the bigger the name the bigger the shame. Entirely too many illogical restrictions from some of these groups for me. Logic and common sense are frequently subordinated to pomposity and self aggrandisement.

People??? Don't you realize if they "adopted" all the animals out the donations and support would stop? Unfortunately it is NOT in their best interest to actually adopt an animal out. Try small town shelters, very small. In there ends up the pets of the eldely which die, well cared for, well trained, and smart as a college grad.
That's my recommendation and NOT to be disappointed by the huge "we are a not for profit corporation" run rescue shelters.

If you go to a breeder, go to a WORKING BREEDER that still cares about healthy conformation, brains, and personality rather than what "fad part" is popular now!! THEY are the ones who made Collies in greyhounds with fur, German Shepard's back ends structually shorter than their front ends, Arabian horses with snake-necks and butts that could pack tea trays, and cats with Dachshund legs that can barely move, much less run and jump. FADS kill animal because breeders breed fashion animals on peoples whims for "decorative" and "unusual" pets. When the fad dies, the pups end up in shelters and dumped on the side of the road. Case in point, I live on a back country road, and have had 2 sets of litters of "Doodle" whatever mixes dumped in my yard. They couldn't sell, they were trashed. I found them homes.

Yes I do breed dogs. We have 6 Rat Terriers, family dogs, and working members of this farm. I don't do the toys bred with Chihuahuas or Mini Pins for small size. All are registered with the AKC FSS foundation because they deserve recognition after being bred in the hills for decades. I don't show. These guys are working dogs, hunting squirrel and killing "vermin." Vermin equals, rats, mice, snakes, ground hogs, opossum, foxes in my chickens, coyotes, and any stray feral dog attacking my stock. They run 15 to 35 lbs depending on their growth to standard or stopped at mini size. They have Decker bloodlines which is a Rat Terrier line that was selectively bred for hunting hogs and can reach 50lbs. We have the one breed, and I will not have another on the property. They do it all. They were bred as farm dogs and that's what they are best at.

We are trying to adopt too, but apparently everyone is supposed to live in a fenced subdivision and walk their dogs etc.
Where do you get a good farm dog that isn't a pit or lab these days?

Oh Cleo dear, we miss you!

I agree! We have tried to adopt from several different border collie rescues, and we say we have a 20+ acre hobby farm. They ask if it is fenced. We say some of it is, but the dogs are not allowed in the fenced areas as we have horses who don't like dogs, however the dogs do not have direct acces to the road and they are never left out unattended. The rescues say "have a nice day"! Geez, they want to adopt high-energy dogs to good homes, but apparently a farm is not a good home to the rescues in my area.

I have personally seen a practice that I dont agree with, with a couple of rescues in this area. That practice is "permanant fostering". basically the foster home takes in the dog, gets attached, and because of its medical problems doesnt formally adopt it. Why adopt it when they know no one will want that old dog, or that they can turn them away anyways, and the rescue pays all medical costs.
If you want the dog adopt it! Or let someone else adopt it that will pay for it, instead of sucking the rescue dry and then charging $400 for adoption fees on the healthy ones. Just dont get that at all. Then they take in a dog they know is gonna cost thousands, and they turn away young healthy ones (that probably get put down). I know to each their own but to me it makes more sense to pts the sick one and save 4 more in its place.

Try going to Corgi breeders. A lot of breeders have older dogs that they need to rehome. Didn't turn out to be SQ like they thought or were returned by another owner or whatever. Sometimes you can get these dogs for a very good price.

I have not owned Corgis, just lots of different breeds/mixes over the years. I've had same sex dogs that get along and a few that would fight. Just to improve odd's a them getting along I'd probably go with opposite sex. The fee's you mentioned are ok if the dog has been spayed/neutered, vaccinated, wormed etc. etc. Though many places are less.

That said, I have my own words about rescue. Last spring, after our old dog died of cancer, we tried unsuccessfully for months to adopt from various rescues. We live on 10 acres, perimeter fenced and inside of that my back yard is fenced with 6 foot chainlink. Dogs are housetrained and are indoor/outdoor. (let the first GASP be heard, outdoors?!)

Reasons whywe were turned down:

We don't adopt more then 30 minutes away. Really? Pretty small circle.
We don't adopt to families with kids under 10. My youngest was 9, farm boy, raised with animals, knowlegable in their care and handling.
We don't adopt to homes that keep dogs outside. Well mine are indoor/outdoor, we live in the country for pete's sake. Oh and stupid me, I though a well built, safe run was a good place to keep a dog when I need to run errands etc. Did I mention I work at home and I'm here 90% of the time?
Your perimeter fence is not high enough. Well it's 5 foot tall and that's the SECOND fence, the backyard fence is 6 foot. So I guess even having TWO fences is still not good enough.

One lady I called about a dog I found on Petfinder took all my info, application etc. etc. and told me a decision would be made next day and that she was sure I'd be the home chosen. What a surprise, never heard from her again. I'm sorry but I have a good home to offer, I will fill out all their paperwork, I will pay their fee's, but I will not go begging and pleading. Rescues either want to find homes or they don't. They couldn't even get past their own red tape to come visit me at my home and see my set up. Never got that far.

I soon found a mix in the paper that I liked, picked out my pup and brought her home where she now lives like a princess. That was 4 or 5 different rescue groups that couldn't make it work, so, sorry, I'll never do it again.

Ummmm, I have Munchkins--those cats with "Dachshund legs". Mine can run and jump and do everything a "normal" cat can do. Doxies were bred to be able to go to ground after their prey. They are built well for what they do. Don't go dumping everyone into the same bucket. Twisty cats were the ones who were crippled. Munchkins carry a gene that was brought about naturally. It's a gene which will express itself only if one of the cats is a Munchkin.

I'll x whatever to the i can't stand shelters group. I think they are silly with all the million rules about what "makes" a great family. Dogs are very adaptable. Just place them according to what they are bred for ( or against) and 9 times out of 10 you'll have a happy match! We are on a local DO NOT ADOPT red flag list because of the pit bulls. EVEN for pit bulls. its dumb. our dogs are well socialized and each have a crate that they spend time in. its not like we pick smaller dogs to foster and just dump them in the mix with the pitties.

I'd say contact reputable breeders- at least you know what you are getting !
