Is it mean to add a polish chicken to my flock?

I have four Polish in a mixed flock. They do just fine, but they only hang out with each other. The other gals seem to avoid them also.

Last year my order of chicks contained some polish. They grew up together & all got along just fine - no pecking etc.

BUT - when they were old enough to move out to the coop the existing flock was not happy!

The other pullets would run away when a higher pecking order hen charged them. The polish couldn't see them coming & thus didn't run away. This is a challenge to the other hens authority & they don't like it. So - my polish got beat to a pulp.

I finally removed them & put them in the garden for a month or two. In the end - I removed the top two hens from the flock & reintroduced & they got along great.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm not up for separating him/her if things get ugly, so I guess I'll skip the poofy head for now.

We added a polish roo to our flock last year. At the time we had a head leghorn roo. There was pecking order but then once established all was well. We had a mixed flock (still do) of leghorns, rir, EE, buffs, silkies, BR, and one polish. Our polish was awesome, and we didn't have any problems. Hope it works out for you!

Then again I think I have a strange flock because after quarinteen my girls will accept anybody! Our last roo we left in a cage in the coop for two days, and let him out at dinner and well it was like he'd been hatched with them!

I had a bantam and a LF Polish hen in my mixed flock, and they were the BOSSES. In fact, the only bird the banty Polish was afraid of was the LF Polish!

The other chickens, especially when they were younger, were afraid of Polish, as is if they were chicken demons.

You should talk to my Polish roo, Pancake. He's in with my non-crested flock and he's as bald as can be. No head feathers to speak of, just little feather stubble. So honestly, I wouldn't recommend mixing a Polish with a non-crested flock.
