Is it my computer or the website?

Press keys Ctrl, Alt and Del at the same time. Click on "Start Task Manager". Under "Processes" look for something with huge usage numbers next to it. That will be what is causing your issue. You can restart the PC or browser and it will be a temporary fix. Doing the above will show you where the problem is. It might be an uninvited program tracking you or one that needs to be updated.

A very good thing to do (for everyone reading this) is to install and run the two below programs. They are free and will save you a world of hurt in the world of the internet.

Malwarebytes: Install and run this program. DELETE everything that it finds. It is FREE and you do not have to pay for the better version of it.

SpyBot: Install and run. Again, DELETE everything it finds. FREE and you do not have to pay for the better version.

Another good free program I use is CC Cleaner. Install this after the other two and run it. Run Programs first and then run Registry. Cleans up a lot of errors in your system that slow things down.

All the above versions of these programs are free. They will also update themselves to keep current. I use them, run them weekly and can't recommend them more. You keep your coop clean .... why not the PC too. :)

Have had that happen on occasion, not recently tho.
I usually close then reopen browser...or shut down computer and restart(cold boot).

I added in some links for free programs that really help to solve some problems. Guaranteed no garbage. I don't have time for a slow PC.

If you don't know it, do not ever install toolbars claiming to be "helpful". They are not. They are programs, hidden under the guise of something to help you, designed to track you and report your usage and the sites you visit. Sometimes even worse.

Mrs K, I used to have that problem a few years ago and changed to Chrome. That made a huge difference. It was so bad I was typing my responses in Word and using copy and paste to get them on the forum.

Sometimes cleaning the cache can help with those issues though that is usually temporary.

My current issue is that occasionally my cursor disappears while typing. Some days it is worse than others, some days it never happens. I'm pretty clumsy when typing, I used to think I was hitting some hot key combination to cause that but I'm not sure that is the problem. With it being so much worse some days than others I think it is something running in the background or some browser or operating system did an update and needs to fix it with another update.

@Sea Wolf don't take offense but I don't know you. I trust @sumi and @Nifty-Chicken
I wonder if they have any comments on the links you posted. I can understand if they don't want to comment. There may be liability issues.

@Sea Wolf one issue I have with deleting cookies and such is that some legitimate programs, like BYC, put cookies in that remembers passwords. If I clean those cookies out I have to use a password every time I want to come on. I may need to contact my bank to reset things if they can't find their cookies when I try to log on. How do your links handle those? Do I need to keep a list of passwords and phone numbers handy every time I log on? And are those compatible with anti-virus programs? I use Webroot.

It sometimes happens to me here and elsewhere online and it usually means I need to clear my cache (cookies). I'm using Safari and it allows me select the cookies I want to delete and which sites' cookies I want to leave, so I don't get logged out of those, for example BYC, gmail, etc. Deleting FB and all the sites connected to them's cookies usually solves all my problems.

I have this happen too (Win 7 Pro) There is a setting you can go into to change your cursor. I made mine bigger, black and with a trail so I can find it when it gets "lost"

Understood and no worries. You can easily Google these programs and read about them and many reviews/comments. There are paid versions of these programs but they also offer free ones that offer the basics and not all the options. The links I posted are only to the free versions of these. There are no ads or other gimmicks. You do not have to pay or submit a donation. These are well known programs that have been around for years. No liability issues.

Compatible with all antivirus programs. As for passwords, The only one that would clear those is CCCleaner, and only if you told it to do so. I understand about the password issue. I can't remember them all either. Given the opportunity, I tell the website to remember me and the PC to remember the login. I use Firefox for most of my browsing and, if you "right click" on a bookmark, select "Properties" it will open a window for that bookmark. I take my password and user login and type it in the window labeled "Tags". It keeps it there, isn't accessible to anything/anyone and, if I forget, I can look there to see what it was. I use a different browser for Facebook and mostly for FB alone. In that browser, I also use a search engine called "Duck duck go" as it does not track you or turn information over to FB the way Google does. I use Google, but on a different browser that I use for FB. Ever notice all these adds and pop ups on FB that seem to be targeting things you might be interested in? It is because Google reports to Facebook what you have searched for.

You should look into the programs Sea Wolf linked - if uncomfortable with clicking direct links (which isn't a bad thing!) you can always web search them and read the reviews. I've used Malwarebytes and CC Cleaner along with some other programs. I don't use them regularly but I think I'm pretty good about keeping my computer "clean."

As far as cookies I know it sounds crazy but my browser deletes cookies every time I close it. Yes that means having to enter passwords multiple times a day and having utility companies text me with temporary passcodes to prove my computer is mine. Yes it's a hassle, but I don't like being tracked and "recommended for you" and everything else.

I also disable almost everything on start up for a faster start. The average computer has a crazy amount of junk loading up on start up which is simply unnecessary.

A few quick notes:

Cookies and cache are totally different things. It shouldn't be an issue for your browsing, passwords, etc. to clear your cache. 99% of the time when we are suggesting clearing something to help with the browser experience, it's "cache" and not "cookies".

Cookies do store sometimes helpful information (like passwords), and we'll usually only suggest deleting these if there is a specific login issue. In this case, most browsers support the ability to delete cookies for a specific website vs. all websites.
