Is it normal to be able to hear your hen breathing ?! Just wanted to rule out any respiratory proble

Aspergillosis is a chronic problem caused by mold. There is no treatment for it except to remove any mold in the environment. Symptoms are rapid breathing, rather than deep breathing. Check her for an egg, by inserting a lubricated finger into the vent. I would put her back in the coop as Pwand suggested--maybe that will calm her down. Do you have a light in your coop to do it tonight? For the diarrhea, I would give her some probiotics in the form of buttermilk or Probios Dispersible Powder in the water.

So do you think its not respiratory then, I'm nervous to put her back in, if it is !? I did give her a tums but i don't think she ate very much so i put the remainder in her water.

She came back out of the dog crate shorty after my last post and is acting some what normal ( i can still hear her breath though) but not breathing heavily with an open mouth anymore.

i just don't know anymore .....

I didn't say it wasn't respiratory, but I just wanted to point out that it didn't sound like aspergillosis, and that antibiotics won't affect it. I would sit back and watch her and listen. Look inside her mouth and throat for any odd looking patches or tissue. Oxine is used by a lot of people to disinfect their water, equipment, and to spray the coop, but I haven't used it. I've heard many good things about it. Here is one link I have seen: http://www.shagbarkbantams.com/oxine.htm

I had similar problems with my birds. The problem was gape worms. These worms attach themselves to the esophagus of the birds which cause them to breath hard or makes them sneeze or cough to try to dislodge this obstruction. Look onto the symptoms of this to see if this might be your problem too. Normal worming may take care of your problem. I hope that this might be usefull.

What did you use to treat the gapeworms?

thank you kartking22,
I did read up on gape worms, but my girl doesn't seem to have those symptoms . the only thing she is doing is showing stress when she tries to lay an egg and she seems to be breathing a bit loudly compared to my other hens.

i don't believe she is egg bound ?
