Is it ok for my hens to be evicted from the brooder?

Too funny. Someone at the gym asked me if the guy with the chickens was my husband (we go at different times due to our work schedules). I said No. They are My chickens. He is just my farm hand

That’s hysterical! It’s true, though! I broke my ankle and needed surgery over the Summer, and I’d just planted my garden— guess who’s had to tend to it?? (And discovered he loved it, btw) yep! I guess he truly is my farm hand!

Usually you can move your birds outside at 6 weeks but if they aren't fully feathered I would move them outside and just put extra bedding in the coop and maybe get a heat plate for the coop?

I agree! Since they haven’t had heat during the day it’s time to leave the nest!! Keep them confined to the coop for a week so they know that’s “home”. I bet they will be very happy there! And they will all snuggle together in a cuddle puddle and keep warm!

They just got served their eviction notice....

At 6 weeks, they shouldn’t need a heat plate in the coop; the coop alone will keep them out of direct winds and elements. Personally, I believe any kind of heat in a coop is a fire hazard.

I’m not a fan. I’m just gonna keep an eye on them and see.

We live in SE Texas, so cold usually isn’t an issue for us.
Our latest batch of 25 Australorp chicks were hatched September 22 and we moved them from the brooder pen in the house out to the transition pen inside the big run at 23 days old.
Had a few nights in the upper 50’s but they are fine. They have a box inside the transition pen that they go into at night, and with 25 chicks in there they are toasty warm with just their body heat. This batch is 5 weeks old today and all are healthy and happy!

Yes I personally dont use heat and my chicks are outside but I suggested it just in case
