is it OK for Roosters to Eat layer Crumble?

Can someone please give a good and trustworthy brand for them to eat? I have two laying hens and one rooster all different breeds but all will be one year old in May.

I've used Purina All Flock and in the past and was happy with it.
This thread is 10 years old, so you won't get many responses. I'd start a brand-new thread here if you want more opinions.

What country are you in? Consider adding your general location to your profile as it makes it easier to give more valid responses with different resources available around the world.

Brand doesn't matter, neither does the words. Nutritional content does.

Any grower, starter, all flock, or flock raiser feed is a good choice with 17-20% protein and around 1% calcium with oyster shell or other calcium source available on the side free choice for the active layers. They will take what they need, the rooster may sample.. but not be forced to consume full time.

Layer feeds are closer to 4-5% calcium (and often 16% protein).. re the topic of this thread.. yes calcium in excess CAN be harmful.. but it depends some on genetics and couple with environmental details like access to other pasture stuff, etc. Some roosters will never experience the possible gout, kidney failure, and death as a result of improper diet.. while other will. Their owners will most often never know what happened unless they followed through with necropsy. Both will still die at some point. I have my preference (no layer feed for non laying birds regardless of gender).. but safety is an illusion and CAN be a prison preventing one from enjoying or experiencing some aspects of life. No fear mongering HERE (inside of me).
