To let your chicks live in your bedroom with you?

I'm hand raising 2 orphington chicks right now and I have them situated in my bedroom with their lamp and all of the other goodies...this way I can not only keep a close eye on them, but I can interact with them every time I walk into the room.

I clean their tub 3x a week and put fresh shavings down for them...but I'm noticing in the past couple days that they're starting to get a little stinky.

Is it still safe to keep them in my room?

Also, at what age will they be ready to live in the coop?

Thanks!!

I don't think you should keep the chicks in your room. I heard that I will cause respiratory infection or something of the sort. Good luck!

my chicks spent there first 3 weeks on a shelf to the righ of my bed and there was no prob other then the red light keep me up but i woke up every 2 hours to check on themm there first week and it was so easy just to sit up and see them and as they got older i would just open my eyes and i would see a chick staring at me. the only thing is i cleaned there nursery every other day becasue of the smell. but other wise it was fine and it helped us bond more too I think

moving to the coop depends on the weather out side and safty factor mine moved out at 5 weeks old they were off the heat lamp and pretty well featherd out I also live in Hell aka Vegas so it was more then warm enought and there coop is pretty well safe from pretors so it really depends on the factors of your weather and dangers v coop

I also kept my chicks in my room for their first two weeks but I changed it everyday. You might want to give it a scrub down once or twice a week if possible. All mine turned out fine and are healthy adults now

I haven't had mine in the bedroom but they're in a brooder in the garage. Sounds like you're doing a good job with the cleaning. I find that some of the "smell" is actually their chick starter getting warm under the red light. I've moved my feeder to the side of the box away from the light and its helps a bunch.
