My hens go crazy for their food if I pour water over it. They wont touch the pellets when they are dry, but they gorge themselves when they are wet and mushy. And they just seem to pick the corn pieces out of the lay mash so I have been making a pellet/mash mix in a shallow ceramic pot which I then fill with water- they eat ALL of it in no time (then spend a lot of time sleeping off their full crops) Is there any reason not to do this?

I don't think there's anything wrong with it but then again I might be wrong..But it seems okay because that's what I do with my duck.

now that its cold I give mine warm layer mash every morning or oatmeal or grits. The only problem with wet food is to make sure they eat it all and dont leave any overnight or it could mold especially in warm weather.

mine lovvvvvvvvvveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee wet mushy food, not the dry pellets.!

I use Flock Raiser and alfalfa pellets plus various other things to make a warm mash in the morning for our girls. They do not get their pumpkin until they clean that up...this morning they did not take long to slurp it up!
