That is really not the same thing that Dar has. You have a wall around the corner conecting it to the floor. What you have "is a" wall.
Help me out Ranchhand. Can you or your husband explain better than I?

that and the fact that, that appears to be duct work

Every bedroom in my house has angles ceilings because of my roof

this is a very old pic but the house has not changed at all

right..it just curves right down onto the wall... there is no cut line that seperates it from the ceiling... its def part of the ceiling...
If she painted it..where would the paint line end?? she would have to have a reeeal strady hand to seperate that from the ceiling.
