LOLOLOL

My cigar humidor-incubator-inator can hold 6 duck eggs. SOrry...50 does sound like a huge amount to me. Just for those 6 eggs I am taking up 1'x1'

lol

I have never set 50 eggs at a time ... but my obsession is growing

hehe,, just buy a sportsman now,,, 50 eggs is nothing once you've done it twice

between my sportsman bator, and the sportsman hatcher,, i could probably set about 900 eggs at once hahahaha ,, not gonna try it tho,,lol,, 3 or 4 hundred is enough

Good lord, what would I do with the chicks?! lol

I am poor and on the job hunt ... a sportsman is out of my reach

Maybe within the next year or so though ... It never hurts to dream, lol.

Would probably be okay if I go ahead with the plexi, though. That should keep the humidity away from the wood. I will have to use small gauge PVC or something to line the vent holes though. I am just going to have the check the price of plexi again. I really like the idea of it being so easy to clean and yuck resistant (as well as protecting whatever wood I use from moisture).

I think your on to the right path....one unit, smaller scale than GQF Sportsman, Hatcher on the bottom....I hate those Styrofoam Units...to much money for what you get...make your unit twice the size of a Bator, top for incubation, bottom shelf for hatching....as far as lining it with Plexiglas, how about Formica glued to the plywood, aluminum for the bottom....scavenge around metal shop dumpsters. Keep a journal, take pictures and report back in. GOOD LUCK

In stead of using plexiglass you can by a 4x8 sheet of white 1/8 plastic for $26 at Home Depot. It's in the aisle with paneling.

I used the white tileboard panneling sold at Home Depot. It's built to take the moisture and is pretty inexpensive. I just caulked the seams with white silicone.

Hmmm ... all interesting ideas. I love this place ... it is a great sounding board! I am glad I posted before tinkering with things.

Paint I have. I might go ahead and try that to start out with. I can always add some sort of moisture proof liner later, if I need to.

It is interesting that the sportsman is made out of fiber board. I have that here too, lol

We use it for a lot of things ... just cannot really beat $5 for a 4x8 sheet.

I am going to go ahead and give the bookcase wood a try and paint the inside when I am through. I think that it will make a perfectly sized bator/hatcher for me. Now I just have to find a place for those books

I will have to sand the fake woodgrain stuff off of it before painting it though, I do not think the paint will stick to that stuff.

That exactly what I had in mind except with plexi. I never even thought of that stuff, it looks great inside too!
