I loved that article, the idea to raise the fence has worked marvelously. I did have to figure it out tho, and give them some training to understand what to do.
After hearing your advice, I think I'll wait on new chicks. Maybe I'll come across a hen to add as an adult bird later on.

Thankfully chicks seem to catch on to the idea of a safety gate/gap pretty fast (I literally just chase them from one side to the other a couple of times, and they'll remember).
Sounds like a good idea to wait on adding more birds. Gets hectic when you're trying to integrate one group while integrating another. Plus if eggs are a priority for you, you'll get more consistent production over time if you space out members of your flock by 1-2 years, as hens are most productive their first 2 years.
