Is it Scaly leg mites? Photos attached

I am so sorry to hear about your hen. :hugs
I'd also like to hear what the vet said.
I understand that each case is unique.

I had on older rooster who had been having issues. I'd consulted and he was given antibiotics. They failed to help and I took him to the vet. He was prescribed a stronger course of antibiotics. He passed away a couple days into treatment. It was explained that while killing the "bad" bacteria, the good bacteria was also killed and that left him with his defences down. Because he was older and already at a vulnerable state, he succumbed. I was thankful our vet tried to help him and of course, there is never any way to know if treatment will be successful. With the best care, antibiotics and love...it still may not be enough. I just wanted you to know that. :hugs

Care can also be prohibitively expensive. It cost $166 to treat this $2 rooster I had brought home because no one wanted him. But he became a special bird and part of my heart. I'd been handling him every day since spring and I lost him early this fall. We do the best we can with what we know. And we learn. :)

Oh no I'm so sorry!!! :hugs
What did the vet say?

Vet said it was definitely Bumblefoot in both feet. He said it was a pretty bad case and that she would have been that way for quite some time as the disease appeared to have grown into the bone. It was so bad on a couple of toes that the nails had fallen off. He said that if we were to treat her, it would take a couple of months, and cause her a fair bit of stress and pain. He said that given how severe it was, we would be fighting a losing battle.

Whenever I take my animals to the vet, I always ask them what they would do if it were there own pet. Of course they may not tell the truth, but in this case, I feel he was telling the truth when he said the kindest thing would be to put her down as he would have made a lot more money from me by pushing the treatment!!
