Is it too late in the year to get new chicks?

I'd order now. If your really worried about the heat wait till September that way they get shipped in the cool first weeks of October. Also that means they start laying in the spring right along with the big girls.

I received my first chicks in the mail about a week ago. All happy & healthy. The man at the post office was happy to see them this time of year.He said in the spring they get lots of orders of chicks coming in and in the spring it's not uncommon for them to get hung up in a late snow storm somewhere in the states.

I'm getting 6 next week from MPC. I'm not a patient person either! I figure they will need more babying - since the nights will be getting cooler just when they are the age where they should be able to go outside. I've talked my DH into building a 'mini-coop' for them to stay in until they are big enough to go in with the 3 Leghorn pullets.
