I am probably going to keep him, and see how it goes. Nothing about roosters being verboten here, tho we are skirting the lot size issue with all of the chickens. We're far enough apart from our neighbors that any early morning crowing should not be disturbing, as they will be locked in the coop at the back of our property. And the rooster on the street in back of us crows- loudly!- all day long and as far as I know, no one complains. He's been there a couple years now. We'll see. We've all become attached to this guy, and he's one of the tamest of the whole bunch right now.

WOW you're lucky! My polish roo is the wildest one. He is so shy and so scared of us. He reminds me sooo much of a roadrunner. When I get close enough to him neal down and have him cornered he will jump up and fly right over my arms and run away... I try and try but he just hates me!!

The Polish hen is like that- flighty! She runs away, squawks, you can't get a hold of her she's so quick and slippery. She is the only one of the bunch who won't take treats from my hand. She's gotten really good at stealing them from the other chickens, tho!

LOL. I will hold my hand out with treats and he will look over and stand up tall to look into my hand better but wont come anywhere close.

Looks like y'all were spot on. He attempted a couple real "crows" this afternoon! I laughed at him. Told him he sounds like a rusty door hinge!

The hens just stopped and looked a thim like "What the heck was THAT supposed to be??"

We're keeping him for now. See how it goes. I don't think the neighbors will care. At least I hope not. They must be able to hear the other one in the close area, if I can. And he won't be too disturbing in the really early AM since they will still be locked in the coop. If it gets to be a problem, we know someone with a lot of land and a bigger flock of chickens who may take him. Or else there is always freezer camp. Yeah, it sounds awful, but if worse comes to worst... The folks we get our CSA share from said they would turn him into dinner for us. But for now, I guess it's Good-bye, Molly, Hello, Monty!!
