Is my buff orp cross a boy or a girl?

All the Orpington roos I seen , thier comb goes beyond the eyeball, more to the back of the skull, and I looked at a lot of them the other day. I'd say it was a she.

Hey, I have just found out that it's mother is most likely a cream Legbar and the hens of this breed have crests and quite long tail feathers so she may be a girl afterall!

Still looking like a very pretty little girl to me.

I have a BO/EE mix. My little birdy is white like daddy and at 4 weeks does not show near as much feathering as yours. It's head is still fuzzy!

He/she is now coming upto 3 months old and I'm thinking roo now

I'm starting to see definate development of hackle feathers and it's face is too mean looking and red to be a hen to me

Hi, what did your beautiful girl look like when she was a baby? Was she pale yellow/white wings? I just posted pics of a baby I don't know what she is. But her feet look just like yours. Can you take a look. nancysmith2 "What could she be?"

Hi, that's the thing, I don't think mine is a girl

I'm afraid I can't help with yours either other than saying it is very different to mine, when mine was that age it didn't have the yellow beak or yellow undersides to it's feet, the wings didn't hang in that manner either, yours looks like a bantam of some sort to me, hopefully yours is a girl though!

hmmm...I still think she looks like a girl, but I agree that her face is awfully red looking. As for the sparring...she may be dominant. I can't tell the hackle feathers in the pic and I'd expect to see some longer feathers in the saddle (at least my roos started having them by 12 weeks, but they aren't BOs). Are the hackle feathers pointed or rounded? If they are pointed, then "she" definitely a roo. If they are rounded, she may just be a dominant, fast-developing hen.

She sure is hard to tell! I usually don't have a problem telling them apart, but she's a toughy.

ETA: I want to add that some birds redden quicker than others...for some reason. Looking back at pics of my latest batch at 10 wks old, one of my hens was turning pink in the face already. Others of the same breed were still yellow. She has a smaller comb, etc, but she was pink. (she's nearly 6 mos old and lays, so she's definitely a girl). Another one of my java hens has a large comb and decent size wattles, but she lays as well. I'd keep an eye on the feathers since that'll be the best give away, I think.
