Is my ducklings external pip too small!?

Hi! It’s my first time hatching eggs and my first duckling has just pipped externally. I’m worried that the pip isn’t big/deep enough for it to breathe. Any advise on how it looks? It’s been almost 24 hours since it pipped externally. There’s been no movement or sound.

Update: I can feel it tapping on the shell but there’s no movement or noise coming from the egg. Is this normal?

try avoid handling too much could upset the yolk while its absorbing, it sounds like its on track. When i did hold egg to ear the tapping noise is normal its a good sign, just leave it. Everytime you pick up make it cold it takes longer for it to hatch, just go fuss over something else for a while to distract yourself. Its very exciting i know but you dont want to kill it on accident, just leave it for a while longer. It should pip more in a few hours or more, depending when it first pipped, but so far so good

Thank you!!! The crack has got a tiny bit bigger but I’m worried that it hasn’t actually made a hole. Is there a way to tell if it’s getting oxygen?

When did it pip? If it has a crack, its getting oxygen, it looks great to me...

It externally pipped about 36 hours ago. Good to know that it will get oxygen with just a crack - I saw other photos of holes and thought it wasn’t getting any. I’ll wait until the morning and hopefully there will be some action!

Good morning! The ducklings made some progress and I can now hear peeping inside! It’s still slow but do you think it’s on track? It’s been around 42 hours since the first external pip.
