I don't know about other people's quail. Mine settle down and go sound to sleep once the lights are out. They get some light in through a West window once it gets light outside. I usually turn on more lights in the garage at about 8 AM when I get up to let the dog out. I turn off the lights at about midnight, usually. Typically I'll turn lights off for the babies (basement) and button quail (in the aviary room) an hour or so earlier. I usually wait in the garage until after the dog goes out the last time.
