Is my it possible my Ameraucana hasn't started laying after 6 months?

Tracydr, I picked her up at my local feed store on Cinco de Mayo so she's a few days past 6 months.

I'm with you! I've got 4 Ameraucana pullets (7 months) & 2 EE's (7 & 9 months)--both the EE's are laying. I'm not playing the waiting game anymore--when it happens, it happens. My luck, they wont start until spring!

I am feeling like there's hope for my blue/green eggs. I was beginning to think that she'd inherited the "brown egg" gene. I read online that some Ameraucana's lay pink eggs. So I started to think that some of the lighter brown eggs I was getting may be her version of "pink". I guess like you say: when/if it (green vs. "pink") happens it happens.

I have a mixed breed in this family that is 28 weeks old this weekend and no sign of eggs yet. Her comb has just started to turn red. I like the philosophy of the PP who said he/she is not playing the waiting game anymore... Sigh...

She is an Easter Egger, not an Ameraucana, and very pretty I might add!

Yes sometimes it can take them a long time to start laying, especially if their birthday falls so that they reach laying maturity right at fall or winter, if that happens sometimes they won't start laying until the spring. Hope this helps!

My EE is 8 months old...still waiting for her first egg. Sounds weird, but look at her vent and if it's about a dimes width across, she's not mature enough yet. If it's about a half-dollar coins width, she should be popping them out. I looked at a hens rump that I knew was laying to compare, and the size difference was very obvious.

One of my EEs was 40 weeks old when she started to lay. It was worth the wait to get those beautiful green eggs.

Good luck with yours.

I know EE's take longer than some breeds to lay.. My polish hasn't started laying, and she is nearing 8 months!

I was told she was POL when I brought her home August 1st! Not one single egg!

I still love her to pieces though!

My Ameraucana hen was older than 6 months before she started laying; I can't remember the exact age, but I think it was between 8 and 9 months.

I have 2 araucanas that are 8 months old and not laying yet. They are huge and not sure they have stopped growing. This thread makes me feel better about them. Sounds like it just takes them longer.
