Trixie is almost 8 weeks old and is starting to look rooish to me. PLEASE tell me I'm wrong! I have 7 chicks and now 2 of them are looking like a rooster. I can't have a rooster so if anyone living on long island would like to trade that would be great! See pics of Trixie below to give me your opinions. Thanks so much. I love this forum!

I have 3 light brahmas - only one of them developed the comb and wattles early on - he also 'pinked up' before the other two. I was right in my guess that he was a cockerel and the other two pullets. Just looking at them, the ones with the reddish developing combs (at that age) tells me they are most likely cockerels. Another way the cockerel was different (in my 3) was that the cockerel's hackles developed into a 'V' shape and travelled down his back, and the pullets still have a rounded shape to the ring of black feathers surrounding their necks. The wattles on the cockerel also turned redder and developed much faster than on the pullets. I now have 1 brahma rooster and 1 EE rooster, and they don't fight, except for an occasional jab or grab.

AAACK! Now I'm bummed out again! Does anyone ever see their 7-8 weel hens do this thing where they perch, stretch out their necks and open their beaks wide, but no sound? Looks like a rooster crowing, but like I said no sound. I see Trixie do this and my other chick who I think may be a rooster(a 7 week old Partridge rock). Is this an indication that they are a rooster? Or maybe they are just yawning?
