Is Peroxide Bad?

Just make sure to dilute it to look like weak tea, someone on here(sorry I can't remember who)said straight betadine is damaging too. I have learned so much on this

site.

I know with piercings they always tell you not to use peroxide because, it will destroy tissue and cause healing time to take longer. It will also cause the wound to dry out, with with some wounds you kind of want but with deep wounds (piercings, bites ect.) you do not want that.

It's best to use triple antibiotic ointment (on both people and pets)

Triple antibiotic ointment is NEVER recommended for puncture wounds because it can suffocate them. You need air flow in puncture wounds, they need to drain.
It's not recommended for piercings either, they are just glorified puncture wounds.Let me direct you to the APP website, healing instructions
Read the back of a tube of Neosporin or anything similar, it says "in case of deep or PUNCTURE wounds do not use"

The oxidation effect of peroxide is often used initially on puncture wounds to help avoid tetanus, then as the tissue heals you just use saline solution so you don't re-damage the tender new growth.

I was also raised to think peroxide was the cure-all too, chickenhick, but I am only 20! I just did what my mom had always done, and she is in her fifties.

All right, so it sounds as if I should use peroxide to being with on a OPEN wound, to kill bacteria and fight tetanus. Then, rinse it off, and use saline solution. Sounds like a winning combo to me. Thanks, Tala! And, I agree, an open wound needs air flow, which is why I was confused a little about neosporin/antibiotic ointment. Lastly, I trust your advice Tala, so please do not show me your album of injuries. ._.

In addition, if I choose to use betadine, I need to make sure it's diluted. Got ya', jenni2142.

Oh, and I can also use peroxide for stains! Thanks, lismrog, lol.

I learned things today. Hooray. :3

Sound like my husband only his is some kind of paint thinner and masking tape! He is a painter.

As for the peoxide, I used it to clean a wound on my dog when she got into some razor wire and she got a terrible staph infection because it killed the natural bacteria or whatever that she needed to heal the wound.
