Is She Broody?

We posted at the same time! I am to tired to think straight tonight but would love to answer all your questions tomorrow!

Good Morning Kaybug137

That is a good idea with the box! I will have to do that for mine!

As far as the duck drake ratio goes it kind of depends on what kind of duck you have? As a general rule though I would go with two ducks per drake.

a mallard or call not quiet sure which lol.. and a Khaki Campbell.
Also one of my Lakenvelder hens are being odd today she's laying ontop of the egg's she didn't fluff up or anything, but I moved one of the egg's out from under her placed it infront of her few minutes later she tucked it under her, then she threw hay over herself, making a small little noise which sounded very cute.

Good Afternoon to you to.Sounds like your lakenvelder hen is broody as well! I forgot to mention that broodiness spreads like the flu! I lovingly call it ''Broody Cooties" !

For your mallard/call he only needs one or two ducks and your Campbell can handle 4-6 but I don't think you need that many!

Do they have to fluff up to be broody? her tail isn't in the air like they would normally have it shes kind'a just chilling ontop the eggs. wasn't pecking or screaching let me pet her which I don't think she seemed to mind much as for Peng, Not sure whats her deal lol, she will also screech on the perch if its dark or getting dark, makes me wonder if shes had a nightmare of someone grabbing her or something lol!. As for my Campbell duck, he doesn't try anything yet Duckie the mallard/call he tries to get it on with waddles.. I think.. Unless he just wants a free ride around the pool. He bobs his head up and down and does a weird squeak noise, which I heard is their way of flirting, Waddles is a chilled out mellow drake. But not sure if he'll be able to mate due to having a knub for a foot.. Can't think of anything to use for a shoe for him. or Prostetic.

They don't Have to fluff up but they usually do. Some of my broody's are nicer than others! Is Peng still sitting and did she remain sitting throughout the night?

Definitely sounds like Duckie is of breeding age and mentality. As far as Waddles goes he might not be able to breed, but it might make him feel better to have a girl friend!

Peng didn't last long lol. I think what happen was, she decided to try to sleep in the nest box but it brought painful memories of laying egg's so she decided to hop onto the perch lol!. I'll keep checking on Spazz (my lakenvelder)throughout the day. And Waddles does need a girlfriend XD Poor feller, but Duckie takes care of waddles.
