Ok, I put eggs under her last night, and she was very patient with that. Last question for now I hope... how often should I check for broken eggs? I collected 11 over the 3 days, so I just put them all under her.
X2 As "they" say....no one knows how to be a chicken better than a chicken.I personally don't mess with my sitters, when she gets up and if I am around then of course that gives me the opportunity to check the eggs but otherwise its hands off, let momma do what she is supposed to do.
X2 Let her be to do her thing. The more you mess with her, the more chance of causing problems.I personally don't mess with my sitters, when she gets up and if I am around then of course that gives me the opportunity to check the eggs but otherwise its hands off, let momma do what she is supposed to do.
Found my broody walking around in the chicken yard, and the eggs were cold. She got back on them, though. Is that normal?
Yes, it's definitely hot and humid here, not chicken body temperature hot, though. Alright, I thought I'd ask before I chucked the eggs, thinking they'd done died. Pardon my ignorance. I've kept chickens for only 2 years and never attempted to hatch eggs until now. They can be off the nest anywhere from a few minutes to a few hours. Especially if it's warm and humid where you're at![]()
