My black Jersey giant is 15 weeks old, way to early to start laying right? It’s a small possibility that this is a midnight majesty maran. Some of those were all black, But I’m pretty sure not. Why is her comb and waddle so red?

She’s working up to it! I’d expect something to start happening in the next three weeks or so.

Is she squatting for you? Assumes The Position (as if you were a rooster) if you reach down to pet her? Very unsettling to humans when this happens, and they don’t all do it, but that’s another sign that things are happening.

Can you tell that this has just happened for us, too?!

She has not squatted , one of my EE have and I yelled to my husband “she squatted!!!!! That’s one of the first signs that she’s gonna lay!!!”

I was surprised, too! Even the Buff Orpington is laying, far sooner than breed predictions.

Maybe proper chicken-keeping, fresh air and exercise, and good nutrition move things along a bit.
Welp I guess we need to get on making those nesting boxes , like this week. We’re gonna use 5 gallon buckets on their side ◡̈ I also need to clean out the rest of the things stored in the coop, so I don’t have to search for eggs in any hard to see places lol I’m assuming getting 16 chickens to lay where I want them to
Is gonna be a fun time lol

My husband was deeply unsettled when I told him what squatting meant. He thought that they were finally letting him pet them without the usual bribe of sliced raw almonds. 😂
