I personally would not take any more calls from them. Not worth the time/effort/stress.

If they want to take it a step further I will simply wait for the court summons

ETA: and I would be wating very patiently, because I have a feeling that they won't pay the $50 fee to file, and the marshall's cost to deliver the papers, and they won't have their paperowrk lined up.....see they were just hoping to make a quick buck and I'd be willing to wait them out on it.

Their choice to vet it.They could asked for the initial cost of the bunny, but you would think they would have shown the vet bill. The vet is on them, but if it is true then I would consider a refund on the cost of the bunny.Sorry for your hassles.Hope the other bunbuns are OK.

I hate selling anything on craigs and then I see posts for similar and wonder if it is my stuff/pet that is being resold.

The person who pays the vet bill is the person who signs the vet bill. If they demand thousands of dollars, just show up with a new rabbit. You just made it right.

A $400 vet bill for a rabbit isnt strange at all..
Actually, they got off cheap! Vet prices are crazy high in my area..espically for emergency rabbit care...
Ask me how i know??

Okay, I realize a $400 Vet visit is probably quite normal to most of the members here. But, here in Durant, Oklahoma......... it's crazy! My dog had to have surgery after he was ran over and it sheered his joint. So, they had to remove the entire joint and had to cut and fold the muscle over what was left of the bone. It was a pretty major surgery for a dog.

It cost me $175.00 So, to me $400 for a sick rabbit to go to the vet is pretty drastic. A routine vet visit cost me $10, if I get all their yearly shots added to that, then it goes up to $28. A puppy that had Parvo and had to stay in the vet for 2 days cost me $100.

All I can say, is I know where I'm not moving to. I couldn't afford to take my animals to the vet.

It all sounds like a scam except... they haven't asked you to do anything, not even replace the rabbit - yet.

Perhaps the lesson to learn from this, scam or not, is to sell your animals with a written agreement on what your (the seller) responsibilities are and get the purchaser to sign it and you both keep a copy. You can make up what suits you as a seller and if the buyer doesn't like it then they don't have to buy.

400 dollars for a dead rabbit - I wonder what a vet would actually do when investigating/treating a bacterial infection in a rabbit, presumably identifing a bacterial infection doesn't take long and it sounds as if the (unsuccessful) treatment couldn't have gone on for long.

Office visit for the cats and dog is $75 and up. That's before they start doing any sorts of tests or treatments; even if they look at specimins themselves, there is a fairly expensive charge. Meds. are always considerably marked up. The location is convenient and they know my dog. They will not treat anything other than cats and dogs.

The vet I take the chickens and bunny to is not at all in a convenient location, but his costs are much mroe reasonable. Office visits run about $55, meds. are pretty musc at cost. If he looks at specimins himself, he doesn't charge extra--if he sends it out he does.

I like both of the vets, but if the chicken vet was closer, he would see all my animals.
