These are our first two chicks and they seem to be healthy and happy, but one of them just started doing something very strange. She looks like she injured her legs. She is laying down and kind of rolling from side to side and stretching out one leg then curling it up and then doing the same w/ the other leg. It doesn't look like she is just stretching, it definitely looks bad. However, then she will get up and run around and then lay back down like she is hurt and the other chick will gently peck at her feet/leg like she knows something is wrong w/ it. Any thoughts???

I looked this up in the chicken health book for you and it says it could be a vitamin deficiency. vitamin B6 or known as pyridoxine. I'd give a good multi vitamin . first state vet has a good formula called vita pro b. or you can use vitamins and electrolytes from durvet . that has pyrdoxine (B6) in it at 250 mg per 4 oz. its a water soluble powder concentrate. I found mine online from durvet. I hope this helps. see how she does with the vitamin. best of luck.

Thanks so much for taking your time to look this up for me! I'm happy to say I haven't seen her do it since last night. I have been giving them Sav-A-Chick electrolyte and vitamin supplement (w/ B6 pyridoxine hydrochloride) since I got them 9 days ago. Do you think I should get a different brand? My only other thoughts of what it could be was yesterday early morning (middle of the night) they dug up their pine bedding and ripped up/pulled back the paper towel underneath exposing the slippery bottom of the tote-about 2 bowl sized spots. They slipped on it a little throughout the day till I got it fixed later that day. I never saw her do the splits, but I wonder if it injured her legs and that's why they were bothering her. The other thing I read is that they shouldn't have too much room to move around when they are young because it is too much on their weak bones. Do you think a 110 quart tote is too much room for two 2 1/2 week old chicks? Thanks!
