Is something wrong with my drake’s eyes?

So, I think that the pine shavings bedding that I’ve been using for my birds could be the problem… I found an article online that said that not only is cedar shavings toxic to ducks and chickens but pine shavings are toxic too.
I just cleaned out my duck house today and when I put the ducks away tonight immediately one of my ducks started sneezing.
The last week or so I have also noticed some blood on the bedding in the duck house and than tonight there were some drops of blood on the steps in the pen…. I have checked all the ducks and chickens for any injuries and found nothing, I can’t figure out where it’s coming from, do y’all have any ideas?

Now I am remembering that I wasn’t really having many health issues with my birds until a few months ago and that was about the time I started using the pine shavings as bedding

I noticed tonight that my duck Bluebelle’s eyes are worse than Ducky’s eyes

I’m glad you figured out the shavings were causing problems! Unfortunately, bags of scented wood don’t have warnings for birds. Birds are extremely sensitive to anything strongly scented and are prone to respiratory infections very easily. Things like smoke, candles, and anything remotely scented WILL irritate any bird. Since it sounds like you just switched out the bedding, try to give it a week to see if their sneezing symptoms go down but if not I really do suggest baytril! You can get i on poultry websites, let me know if you’d like the link to the one I use. I’ve been using baytril on my poor duck who was attacked by a raccoon and it had helped him so much. I’m not sure about the blood? If you don’t see any wounds, be alert for their stool instead or if they’re coughing up blood. May be internal rather than external if you don’t see anything on their body. Also I suggest measuring their breaths or just examining their breathing. Check for labored breaths.

For your ducks eye… The scent of the bedding you used could’ve been very irritating. Not sure if you used pine or cedar but I know pine has a VERY potent smell and I know pine has caused respiratory infections in chicks. If you feel as if you should be doing something for your ducks eye over the week, wash out with saline and if you can, try golden root extract. It had helped my ducks bubbly eye (he had an inflamed tear duct, similar to the photo). I took 1/3 cup of water and mixed it with 2 drops of golden root extract then added one drop into his eye 3 times a day, washing with saline between each time. But since you mentioned the bedding I feel maybe you should wait a bit to see if there’s any change but it wouldn’t be bad to start on an antibiotic and washing their eyes out with saline.

If you do decide to use baytril, be mindful and read the directions on the website carefully as if used for a prolonged period (it says 5 days but I’ve heard of people going 10 days but if you go that long I suggest using a probiotic on the side) it can cause yeast infections in their crop. It’ll also kill all the good bacteria along with the bad bacteria so it’s important to use with a probiotic if you use it for too long. Other than that, baytril has been very useful to me and I’ve heard of it being very useful for respiratory infections as well
