is ther a certain time?

i was just wondering , when do they lay? i gone early in the morning when i get home late after noon theres sometime an egg there...so is it during the day or late at night? and should i leave a light on for them.will they stay in more cos its cold out, we had a frost this morning, they really werent fast to get out, no egg this morning on my day off .does it get to cold for them to lay, still i have no idea which one is laying yet.:eek:

I don't know if this will help but this is how our chickens work. Usually our chicks lay from about 8 or 9 am till between 2 and 3 in the afternoon. We
collect eggs when we feed them about 4 o,clock pm.

As far as chickens not laying as much during really cold days and even really warm days your egg production will lessen a little just keep your chickens hydrated and as comfortable as possible.

The light question-when the time changes and the days are their shortest we leave a light on in the coop for al least 12 hrs and it does seem to help.
