Is there a breed for me?

Green Fire Farms is located in Florida. You might want to look at the breeds they have not to buy from them but to see which breeds might do well in your climate.

Wish I could have a rooster. The male Welsummers are gorgeous!

It does make it difficult when there is a lot of conflicting information. But everybody's birds are kept in different conditions and have different personalities. I know there aren't any guarantees! Thank you for your input.

Each chicken is absolutely gonna be an individual personality. By example, I've known a number of RIR that were very nice birds... But I've known one who was willing to have a piece of you should you dare try to collect eggs - she'd grab your arm then twist back and forth! She left a number of bruises and drew blood on several occasions. Same for leghorns. I've known leghorn hens, and even a rooster that were amazing, people oriented birds... but I've known some that would attempt to break their necks against a fence trying to get away from you.

Anyways. My point is that if you're after friendly birds, it can't hurt to start with a breed that's known for being easy-going and good natured knowing full well you might have some birds who don't follow the rule especially if you're a first-time chicken keeper, and you're planning on having kid involvement. Better than getting red junglefowl and hoping they are as placid, snuggly and willing to be handled like a buff orpington.
