Is there a certain way to put an egg in the carton?

It really doesn't matter. When you incubate them the top is the fat end, that is 'head up'. I always feel bad for putting them on their heads even if they are just eating eggs!! Its an OCD type thing for me!

I can even look at the eggs on the easter egg coloring kit or egg shaped candy packaging and if the picture is skinny side up I get mad because their eggs are upside down!!

Pointy end down

...says it keeps the aircell stable, which decreases breakdown of the whites prolonging quality, and decreases possibility of contamination.

I don't think it matters much for eating eggs, but if you're incubating, it's definitely pointy side down. (all my eggs go pointy end down - it's kinda like the TP on the holder, always over the top, never underneath - and yes, I will change it if it's wrong.)

Not knowing anything at all about incubating, I used to put mine pointy end up, but the only reason I did it that was because that seems to be the "heaviest" end and my logical brain says you pack things with the heaviest end at the bottom for stability.

Ours are in a basket these days so the point (if you'll pardon the pun) became moot.

ETA: Obviously the end with the air in it is probably not the heaviest after all, but I'm more of a visual person so the fat end looks the heaviest even if it isn't.

I agree. The same if you are going to incubate them. I just make it a habit of pointy end down.
