My hen has been sitting about twelve to thirteen days and I decided to candle some of the eggs really early this morning because I couldn't sleep. I could see obvious movement in some, but then I go to a few that had these dark masses in them that looked sort of like this crude drawing. The eggs are dark brown so I struggled to see veins in them, but could those masses be chicks? They don't look like yolks... (squiggles are me being lazy and not wanting to cover the full mass)

Yes, the masses could be chicks. Dark brown eggs are hard to see - at least with what I use to candle. Seeing anything in those is a good sign - it's when they glow clear that you know for sure you have a dud. Good luck!
