I have to say that I have the most wonderful dentist! I started going to him when I was 25 and terribly afraid of dentists from my childhood. I had lots of dental issues as a child and wore braces for 4 on top of that...lots of extractions and moving teeth around.
As an adult it would take four people just to hold me still so that the dentist could do anything. But he was patient and went slow, explaining everything so there were no surprises.
I've seen this guy for almost 25 years now and he has done fillings, root canals, and even an apicoectomy (twice!)...and I've been fine through everything. I never feel any pain after the first numbing shot. And he even swabs a topical anesthetic before doing that. Then he waits for the first shot to numb up and proceeds with the rest. He always advises us to take ibuprofen or such when we get home. He says that he gives us enough novocaine to last until we get home and oral pain meds have a chance to take effect. And no problem giving me a prescription for pain if needed. And, the best part is that he gives out his home phone number in case you need to talk to him weekends and evenings.
My dentist is a great guy. Not the cheapest in town but I will gladly pay whatever is over and above the insurance.
