Is there a dentist in the house? mahonri????

It may be they are quoting you the highest fee if they need to knock you out completely. They might decide to go with a light gas and if you are still very anxious, need to do IV sedation. So people don't get upset at the higher fee than anticipated, they might just quote the worst case scenario so they don't get mad patients at checkout. You might call them and find out if this is the case.

My sister said if you go with gas, breathe deeply. She had a bad habit of not breathing deeply when anxious, so then the gas didn't work for her. Once she figured that out and concentrated on relaxed breathing techniques - the gas worked much better!

All dental patients please report to the chair and stare at the ceiling this morning please.....

Hope all is well with all of you!

Mahonri, you should get an internet stipend for all the virtual dentistry you've been doing!

I am back. I had an early appt. He did a root canal!

I've always thought that the dentist & the gyno should have a joint practice. If you're going to have the car up on the rack, have all the hoses, connections & fittings looked at, right?

I have to say that I have the most wonderful dentist! I started going to him when I was 25 and terribly afraid of dentists from my childhood. I had lots of dental issues as a child and wore braces for 4 on top of that...lots of extractions and moving teeth around.

As an adult it would take four people just to hold me still so that the dentist could do anything. But he was patient and went slow, explaining everything so there were no surprises.

I've seen this guy for almost 25 years now and he has done fillings, root canals, and even an apicoectomy (twice!)...and I've been fine through everything. I never feel any pain after the first numbing shot. And he even swabs a topical anesthetic before doing that. Then he waits for the first shot to numb up and proceeds with the rest. He always advises us to take ibuprofen or such when we get home. He says that he gives us enough novocaine to last until we get home and oral pain meds have a chance to take effect. And no problem giving me a prescription for pain if needed. And, the best part is that he gives out his home phone number in case you need to talk to him weekends and evenings.

My dentist is a great guy. Not the cheapest in town but I will gladly pay whatever is over and above the insurance.
