I have a terrible fear of dentists have since I was a kid. I had to have a lot of work done a few years ago. I also don't numb very easy either. I was having a lot of pain on one visit and they called for someone to come over to see what they could do.
They guy looks at them and say just give her a pain blocker. I said what is that he said it a cocktail of 3 different pain meds. He said the shot is going to hurt like crazy at first. But your going to love me after a couple minutes. Wow he wasn't lying either!!!
All those years I suffered with pain for no reason. All they had to do was give me that wonder little cocktail mixture and I wouldn't have felt a thing.
Now if I have to have any work at all that is what I ask for. I tell them right up front I'm the biggest chicken on the planet and I'm not a fan of dentists.

wow! $50!!! too bad you weren't an oral surgeon id drive to phoenix !! How much would the valium cost?

I have two friends who are Periodontists (gum doctors). One of them
have cleaned my teeth a few times and OMG. He goes below the gum
line and it's not a comfy feeling but I do plan on taking my teeth with
me when my time here is over so the pain is worth it.

Dentists and Perios are a strange crew, maybe that's why I like most of
them I have met. My biggest complaint to any of them would have been
"excuse me but do you mind having a mint?"

I had a hygenist one time ask me if I ever considered braces since on one of my bottom teeth is slightly mis aligned with the rest. I answered, No, Have you?" She replied, "No, I haven't, why would I need braces?" I sat there and blinked for maybe 30 more minutes while she rambled on. Her teeth are spaced far enough apart in the front you could sit a raisin between them and she wondered why she would need braces.

I am guessing you were referred by your general dentist to the Oral Surgeon.I would call them and tell them the fees sound really high and see if there is another OS they could refer to. We get this all the time in our office. Different places have varying fees. Best thing is to be totally honest and tell them what you told us that your anxiety is high and the nitrous fee seems exorbitant! It is important to go to a OS that will treat you well and do a good job. Word gets around and offices know where to send or not send patients : ) Good Luck !!!

I dont care for the dentist either - my teeth are so sensitive they have to use numbing cream just to CLEAN them. Its awful. oddest thing - I have no recession of the gums either, just my teeth are naturally sensitive.

Takes about an hour plus to clean my teeth and forget putting cold water /air on them...

Better numb me up 3 times as much for that.

Sorry Mahonri... we still love you as a person..but...

and Nitrous here isnt covered by insurance either, costs us $85.00 for my son to have it every time he gets his teeth cleaned (he's got a big fear of needles/picks)....
