I have had EE for years. Here's my thinking about them. They're attractive birds, with generally calm, pleasant personalities. They're good foragers and reliable layers of pretty eggs. I can usually get day-old pullet chicks right around $3 or $4 each and they are hardy, easy keepers. I have not been willing to spend about ten times that amount for purebred Ameraucanas because I don't breed nor do I show birds, and there's always the possibility that a predator could take one or more (though I haven't lost a bird to a predator in ages, it's always a possibility), and I'd rather suffer the loss of a $3 bird than a $30 one, even though the emotional toll would be the same. I think they're absolutely lovely birds (EE) and I'll probably always have some in my flock. Even though they're basically "mutts," I love them more than any other breed I've had. They're just nice people.
