Is there such a thing as a quiet rooster?

I think like anything else with chickens its just that rooster, I have a RIR that hardly ever crows, normally a few times in the morning and thats it, then of course I also have the other end of the spectrum and I cant get them to shut up.

There is a poultry breeder in Texas breeding (selecting for) non-crowing (maybe he's a member of this forum?). He has roosters that rarely crow if at all. A friend of mine has a Buff Orp rooster that crows a few times in the morning and that's all (don't know if that's common to that breed).

My BO roo hardly crows at all! So I have to agree - it depends on the roo. I had a banty roo that crowed all day and all night so this is a very welcomed change. My neighbors are happy.

seriously... are you allowed a rooster in your area?

If the answer is no, don't get one.
if yes, with a neighbour like yours I would consider one of the long crowers.

We just rehomed our China Game after two weeks... the new owner seems pleased.

And we've looked at some of the eggs and he got to some of them so we are saving some of them for when the bator comes.

We then got a EE that looks like a cross between a SLW and BR... my son calls him "Spotty".. he's black and white but has a little red ticking in him. He's going on 21 weeks, and we can see him try to crow and he can't!!!!

I'm hoping it's a genetic defect and I'll be in the crowless rooster business!! So far he has only mated with our tiny EE sunshine... she was one of those that was with the China Game so the eggs we are saving could be with either roo.

I am hoping I got a extra special silent rooster so that I can breed my BBS ameraucana and keep this boy. If I can keep him I am going to try and build a breeding group of up to 8 hens from different breeder and this guy which would be great

Haha, yes, we are. I think there is a limit though, like-one rooster for so-and-so number of acres, or something like that. I know, I could care less what the neighbors think. It's my DH that worries.
