Is there such thing as a "nice" roo

Is there such thing as a "nice" roo?
Yes, and I own him and would not sell him for a thousand dollars.
He replaced the one that was the meanest one in seven states. I wrung that one's neck, put him in a plastic bag, and placed him in the dumpster.

All the roos I have here are nice boys. 2 cochin bantam roos, and 4 serama roos. I have had several mean roosters in the past, the 2 meanest were a bantam cochin roo and a Cuckoo marans. The cuckoo marans was the worst but as far as damage to me gos the cochin won that battle. Both were rehomed, one as dinner and the other went to a farm where he was the only rooster, never hurt anyone after he left here, just had it out for me! It is possible to find a nice roo but your best bet is to raise them yourself.

Well, this is going to sound really harsh, but it probably is because of the way you treat him or act around him. But it's not really your fault, and can be fixed, probably quite easily. There is not a single rooster I have ever come across that I have not been able to 'rehabilitate', although some take a lot more work than others, and Dom might be one of them. If so, you'll probably have to spend quite a bit longer working with him, and if you don't want to, or don't have the time, or just don't think you can and would like to get an easier rooster, then I would say sell him to a good home, and DON'T feel bad about not wanting to kill him!

You are NOT a wimp for being compassionate.
It sounds like Dom may not be that bad though, if he backs off for your husband, and it's probably just something in the way you act that makes him attack you. You have to show him that 1. you are not a threat, 2. you are higher up than him in the pecking order, and 3. you are not scared of him. I talk about it a TON more here: https://www.backyardchickens.com/web/viewblog.php?id=63850-the-definite-guide-to-roosters, so please check that out if you have time.

It's certainly OK if you rehome him to someone and tell them about his history. If they are experienced flock masters, then they should be fine, even if they do have kids. Heck, I would take him right now if you lived closer by!

Good luck!
