Is this a Australorp? And gender if possible

Golden Cuckoo.
One thing I forgot to mention, and that you can't really see in the photos, is that its got a bit of white on the wings.
Do Marans or Australorps have white there?

Well, he's certainly not cuckoo. 🤷‍♀️

Any black chicken might have a few white feathers on it's wings in juvenile plumage. My Australorps often do, so did one of my Langshans, and a lot of the Austra-Wyan-Orp crosses. :)

You'll get a better idea of his mature coloration somewhere between 12 and 24 weeks more-or-less.

Thats the one thing that I do know!

I didn't know that! Interesting...

Yes, I think I will just have to wait and see.
What makes you think cockerel? Just that comb? I'm thinking that it could still go either way at this point, but then I don't know the breed very well.

100% marans, pullet. marans cockerels have red comb and wattles at about 10 days old. even late bloomers have red wattles while your pullet has small pink wattles. I am not familiar with cuckoo but I think that cuckoo chicks are black at hatch. cockerels have white spot on their head at hatch.

I got 12 shipped eggs, 8 were meant to be Marans, and 4 were meant to be Australorps. There were 12 dark brown eggs, and 4 cream eggs. None of the cream eggs hatched so I thought all 7 chicks I ended up with were Marans.
However, one of the chicks looks like an Australorp?View attachment 3353329View attachment 3353330I'm rather puzzled how it came from a dark egg.... and half wondered if it could be a cross?
Also, any idea on sex? I'm thinking most likely cockerel.
I've never raised cuckoo marans but this birds not solid black.

Here is a pic of my FBCM at a few weeks old:

This is what one if its hatch mates looks like

you can see thats its very clearly Cuckoo. I don't have any properly black chickens, so its hard for me to tell if it is or not. Maybe its half way between?
