Is this a boy?

This is my Delaware who is 6 weeks old today. "She" is the first of the three babies (Speckled Sussex & Gold six link) to show color on her comb and show any wattles at all. She screams bloody murder if you try to pick her up or even touch her and is definitely the leader of the three. By far, the most obnoxious of the eight chickens I've owned in the last year and a half. Because of the comb, wattle and aversion to touch, I'm starting to wonder if my pullet isn't a cockerel (turning her from Della to Dale).

Opinions?




Comparison...my Speckled Sussex - same age and much sweeter.



And Gold Sex-Link - same age, super smart and loveable.

Closer shots of the comb would be better, the top one looks like a boy he is starting to develop very red wattles

But the other too look like pullets

But dont take what i say 100%

Thanks for the input. I'll see if I can get closer pics of the comb but it won't be till later tonight. Like I said, I've never had such a pest of a chicken before and noticed the comb and wattle difference last night. I guess the only way to tell for sure is to wait and see. She won't come near me when I put my hand in the brooder (the other two jump right up on the roost) and constantly tries to bully the other two off the roosts by jumping up and grabbing their tail feathers.

Someone on the boards once told me they have never had good luck with hatchery Delaware's as far a disposition. I wonder if that's what I have going here if in fact Della is a girl.

More input is greatly appreciated.

Does that white chick have any black on it at all? I can't see any in the tail or wings and I can't see the hackles, either. From the angle of the picture, doesn't even look like a Delaware.

Hatchery Delawares are a gamble. The first I ever had, hatched from a McMurray pair, were awful. Sold them before they even got to 8 weeks of age. Nasty, flighty, aggressive things. My current ones are super friendly, including the rooster--those are the real deal, came out of excellent breeder lines. I was hoping you'd comment speckledhen. I think you were the one who told me about the hatchery Delaware experience a few months back.

She does have black on her wings (tucked under), a little on her tail feathers and is just starting to show the specks on her nape. She's a mover, so it was hard to even get that picture. LOL!

Oh, your boy is very handsome and sweet. I can't believe he let her love on him like that. That is awesome! LOL And hanging out in the hammock too. I wish any of my girls would do that. My BA is the closest to being a sweetheart but she can be a brat too.

The cockerel picture just came up. I didn't see it before my last post. Based on the picture you posted, I've got a pullet. She doesn't look anything like your cockerel.
