Is this a breed or a mutt/mix?

The reason a number of us think she is a CL mix is because of that distincive crest 😁. Here is a pic of my CL, Billy, I think you will see the resemblance. DFEC9C8B-776C-4046-A76E-D278BF4293BB.jpeg

This came in a batch of Barred Rocks I got from craigslist. She looked like all the others as a chick, black with a white dot on her head but she was a bit larger (turns out older) now she is the smallest in the barred rock pen. Also the meanest and a total rebel. View attachment 2374636

I wish I could get a straight forward picture of her comb, never seen one like it. She doesn't cooperate with anything I do and I have to sneak up on her to get a picture.

(same legs as the barred rocks sorry that its not in the picture)

She looks like an OE. That's usually a cuckoo marans mixed with a crested cream legbar.

I have 10 Cream Legbars, I agree its the same size and shape crest. However if it was part cream Legbar I would expect to to have a little Red/Brown/Gold/Orange somewhere in there feathering. Thats what led to me to wonder if maybe this was a breed. There are also other colors of Legbar but I have only seen Cream Crested Legbars.

Ah, I see! I zoomed in on the pic you posted and could see a little of the comb you were talking about, it is so interesting looking! I had mentioned earlier that I have seen BCM over CL mixes for OE that have the same body and crest, with the exact same barring and no brown, but I don’t know what the comb looked like. Such an interesting mystery 😁. She is really pretty, I love her barring.

what type of comb is this and what breeds have a comb like this?View attachment 2375164
It's a Buttercup comb! The only chicken breed to have this comb is the Sicilian Buttercup, so she must be a Sicilian Buttercup mix. It's not a pure buttercup because of the single comb in the middle, so one of her parents was probably single combed. What's strange is SBs are an orange color, so she should have some orange leakage. Also doesn't explain her crest.

I don’t think that’s what it is... with my chickens, when you breed two with completely different comb types (such as walnut to a single) and they can sometimes come out as a ā€œmixā€ between the two.

So if this is a unique comb I wonder if Its something that could breed true if I had a rooster with that comb pattern. I would Tinker with it but I only the resources for so much tinkering and creating a new comb style is not exactly something I want to spend resources on. If it did not connect in the back and I had a 3 mohawk comb I might consider resources to get that to breed true because that would look so cool. The Tri-Hawk comb! I thought that was what she had at first but after taking a picture and getting a good still look at her its crown in the back with a stem in the front... kinda looks like a mushroom.
