Oh, so sorry for all the added messages but if you have kids you should really check into getting some easter eggers. They are extremely sweet and they lay colored eggs- its so much fun. My EE will sit on my lap and let me pet her.
Don't apologize for the messages I greatly appreciate them! I will check into the eating thing though because they do eat a lot and poop a lot too...lol We will probably end up keeping these as pets and hopefully get some good egg laying chicks as well. We have a beautiful buff rooster 6mo old outside...we will take pics of him and post soon! Thanks for all the help, off to hit the hay and will check back with you guys tomorrow! Thanks again to everyone for all their input...it was greatly appreciated!

The parents of these birds lay eggs....the offspring of the parents are the ones that are raised specifically for meat. They may lay eggs if you can get them to maturity, but they will only lay a few. They are bred for meat production...just genetics.
I agree with Chic on the EE or Americana's. We have 5 different breeds and the EE's are the most friendly and docile with the kids. We also have Buff's and they are by far the hardest to catch and hold. We played with and handled all of them equally everyday since about day 3 and all of them will follow us around like puppies, but the Buffs will run if you try to pick them up. My 3 year old daughter can pick up the EE and carry them around the yard like a kitten without them trying to get away, they seem to enjoy it. Our barred Plymouth Rocks are also very friendly and like to jump on our laps or on our backs and shoulders and they like to be held and petted. I would choose the EE or Plymouth Rocks over the Buffs but that is just my opinion.
My EE will also let my 3 year old catch her and carry her around! And they love the colored eggs! I think Buffs are known to be nice but timid and shy. They are also easily bullied if you are planning on getting other breeds.
