Is this a case of mites?

This afternoon a wild bird appeared in front of our windows. Our house is only 100 yards or so from our chicken coops. It looks sick. I was going to put it out of it's misery, but by the time I got around the house to it, it was gone.

What are your thoughts?!

Look up Scaly Leg and Face Mites in song birds.

Monitor your flock of chickens for any signs of illness and be quiet otherwise would be my advice.

Watch it, but don't panic. I agree, some bad mites and I also agree, don't say anything about it. The bird flu enforcers ( not sure of their actual title) can't kill wild birds but will have no problem putting down yours.

I doubt they're monitoring a little ol chicken forum. But maybe just change your post to something about bird mites.

Actually I would delete it.

Hit the report button on your first post and ask staff to delete the whole thread

Those 'watchers' were only asking for reports if you saw 5 or more sick/dead birds, so really no need to say anything anyway. Hopefully you'll see no more. I'd still delete.
