Is this a chicken?

Pics
That is indeed a chicken. It looks just like one of my black Sumatra chicks and they didn’t get visible combs until around 5 months.

LOL!!!

Sorry guys, hadn’t checked replies in a few days. Hahahaha ha Omg it’s a good thing my vulture-chicken Rex can’t read (..or can she!?!), because some of these comments would surely hurt her feelings :lau

Her (hopefully a “her”) name is Rachel, by the way. And I owe you some more pictures, but she’s awfully squirmy and can fly a lot more than the others. I’ll get some update photos very soon though!

For goodness' sake, folks. Here's a young vulture. http://www.fotolibra.com/gallery/78657/turkey-vulture-chick/
Three major things that are different here.
First, vultures feather out differently.
Second, the body is carried differently.
Third, and most obvious, please note the head. Vultures, condors, and the like all have completely naked heads. This allows them to reach into carcasses without covering their feathers in gore. Their heads start out naked and continue to be naked. The chicken in the first post does not have a naked head because she is not a vulture.

Rachel could possibly be an escapee from a cockfighting operation, do you know if anything like that might be in the area? The feistiness and flying ability makes me think of Hawaiian feral chickens, a lot of which are descended from escaped fighting birds. Besides, that lanky, black-feathered frame with minimal to no comb looks a lot like Hawaiian feral hens, I saw several that looked exactly like her when I was in Kauai. Assuming you aren't in Hawaii, I seriously think you have a cockfighting bird there. I could be totally wrong, though, she might be a purebred of something more junglefowl-like, or just an odd mutt. If she is fighting stock, she could still be a perfectly nice bird. The hens in Hawaii get along with each other perfectly fine.

More clues: we only have two feed stores in this valley, owned by the same person and I’m in there every week. They didn’t sell any game chickens this year. No black Sumatra’s either. This chick had no business being in the neighborhood where I found it (suburban track home neighborhood in la Quinta), so I seriously doubt anyone in this particular neighborhood owns chickens (not allowed) or mail ordered them. So either it made its way all the way from Indio or Coachella (they have issues with chicken fighting there) or else I have no idea

Rachel is a chicken, and I am going to say heinz 57 (mutt). She looks like an odd assortment of breeds, and I cannot pin down anything specific. I have no knowledge of cock fighting birds though so it could be those. How it got where it was is pretty hard. My cousin took one of their chickens and put it in the back of a friends car to prank him and it was found running around near a shopping mall quite out of place, but I highly doubt that this is the case as it is not something the majority of people would do.
