If he was a blond chick and is a Bielefelder, he is male. If "he" was a chipmunk striped chick and is a Bielefelder, he's a she. They are an autosexing breed at hatch.

I have 4 Bielefelder pullets, and they are hands down, my nicest, friendliest chickens. I had a 5 week old Biel pullet that popped up a itty-bitty comb, and people were sure she was a boy. Since it was "the extra," I was afraid it was a different breed, and therefore might be a cockerel. Nope, and nope.
