I don’t think she needs an indoor coop, she can still live in an out door coop and run like a normal chicken. Even though she is blind I think she will still like to peck and scratch at the ground. If her food and water are always left in the same place and she knows where her nest box is when she starts laying, I don’t think it will be a problem, but I don’t think she will be able to be with other chickens, just because I think they will pick on her. I have a chicken that is blind in one eye and she gets picked on by the others. It’s not as bad as it used to be when she was just a chick, but all my girls are the same age and she is the runt because she does not get as much food because she gets chased away, so I always have to make sure she gets enough.Yup. Going see about constructing a indoor coop for them
I was planning to put her out during the day but in an inside coop during night. Wouldn't I have to construct a floor coop so she can find her way in, not sure she could use a ramp properly?I don’t think she needs an indoor coop, she can still live in an out door coop and run like a normal chicken. Awww that's awesome. Her balance is fine, she puts her head back once in a while mostly while drinking and does the circle thing. I'm assuming the same reasons you explained your duck did it. I'm keeping her with a small BR chick for comfort and guidance. When she was younger she would always spin in circles!!! I was afraid she was getting dizzy so I would comfort her and kind of show her around. She usually spun in circles when she didn’t know where she was or she was uncomfortable with just the openness and nothing to show her around, as she got older she stopped spinning because she was more confident in knowing how to get around without hitting stuff! I see her use her bill as a walking cane thing. Now I let her roam in the grass with her friend so she doesn’t have to worry about hitting stuff!! Also, I had her in a little tub thing and I had seen this thread or info. on the internet where you could walk or show her the ends of the shelter you are putting the chick in and she/he could walk the sides til she/he finds the food and water. Does the chick have good, bad, or fine balance? I had to hold my duck, when eating and drinking, so she wouldn’t fall in and bonk her head is the bowl! Sorry this was so long!
What ever you think would be easiest for you. It is going to be more difficult and I suppose she would have to be shown and trained to use a ramp and find her way. It might be easier if you just put her inside at night actually.I was planning to put her out during the day but in an inside coop during night. That’s great! I was going through videos and it took her about 4 days to get her balance!Awww that's awesome. Here she is with my BR baby. You think I should get her a younger smaller companion? SweetPea insists on being half under the other one. That’s great! I was going through videos and it took her about 4 days to get her balance!
In my opinion it really only matters on how they get along! I got a younger companion because Erin was older than a month so I thought the little one could bond well with her and not pick on Erin since Erin was big. SweetPea is young and the other one looks young so if they get along then they could be best friends!!Here she is with my BR baby. You think I should get her a younger smaller companion?
