Is this a common condition?

View attachment 1744208Erin is 5 weeks older than Celeste so she probably looks at Erin as a mom and not a duck that couldn’t survive in the wild, if that makes any sense.
The BR is to mature. I broke down and ended up at FFAH. The lady there is so friendly I walked out with a $1.00 ISO Brown baby girl! :he

Birds of a feather! That's a REALLY cute pic! If you need an indoor "coop" while they're little, try a rabbit hutch or large guinea pig cage. They'll outgrow it quickly, so if you can, just borrow one from a friend ... or maybe you can pick one up second-hand.

Great ideas. Thanks.

@artsyrobin You've dealt with crossbeaks in tiny chicks (like Yittel.) Do you have any pointers to share for this little treasure?
send me a pm if you need to @Mybackyardpeepers i run a group on facebook for crossbeaks and special needs, there is alot of variety in severity, some have no eyes at all some just the beak issue, my oldest is 6, it is a skull deformity and each chick adapts a little differently, feeding depends on the bird, deep dishes sometimes wet sometimes dry, the skull deformity is set before they hatch so the skull is solid bone when it hatches, so manipulation won't fix it, minor trimming will help as adults to eat, don't trim chicks beaks. The cross will stop about 4-5 months, so don't be too worried as it will change some. These are my crossbeaks, they all feed themselves 1 yr Ging.jpg 20180121_082750sm.jpg 20181024_154733.jpg

I was planning to put her out during the day but in an inside coop during night. Wouldn't I have to construct a floor coop so she can find her way in, not sure she could use a ramp properly?

Maybe you could put sides on the ramp, so it would be like a tunnel with an open top... that way, once she gets started on it, she can't fall off? Not sure about getting her onto it, though. Hummm. Maybe the area at the base could be a different texture than the surrounding area, so she could tell where she is by the way it feels on her feet. Like... I don't know... some kind of weatherproof mat, or a square of old indoor/outdoor carpet nailed to a square of plywood. Just thinking out loud here.
