Is this a male fantail

No they are molting feather right now. They also had recovered from salmonella two month ago. Bullied not really he the only one in his cage.

Sorry to hear they were sick... but that's good news they are better now!

Once they are molted they will look lovely smart and clean again I am sure.

My guess the fantail is a male. They are acting like a true pair. However, only time will tell, as we all have been fooled by the crafty pigeons at some time in our hobby. (One time the dominant bird in my flock was a hen... she was as big as the males... and would bow and coo and attack all the other birds.. and even paired with another hen... but it was good to get 4 squabs at a time of that pair).
 
Sometimes you can feel the vent and feel the difference. Usually a female is wider. Especially if she has laid eggs before and males are not wide.
