i found it in the yard today... made my day.. i have seen a quail wander through the yard once... also a roadrunner... but there are a lot of other wild birds.. more in the tree birds though, and this was on the ground in perfect sondition... but not in a nest, not even hidden, just in the middle of the yard.. like she was passing through and "oohh i have to lay..hhmmm crap can't make it.. oh well... " lol....
i picked it up, it's very light, i said "look what i found huney" he said hmm put it in the incubator.. said it feels wierd.. he said might as well try... so it's in there.. i just started some chicks this morning too... i'll candle it.. or try to in a few days...

does it look like a quail egg to you guys??

Looks like on to me .... Although I found a nest of killdeer that look similar but are much smaller and like to lay on rocks...

well it was in the middle of the dirt and rocks we call a yard.. but i have never seen a killdeer before.. cool little birds...... looks like they're a water bird though?? i'm in vegas.. and i know there's quail... i'm gonna go with that until it hatches.. if it does...

remind me.. i had researched quail at one point and was gonna get some, but we ended up with 2 pheasants instead and decided to wait on quail...

they incubate?? 14 days?? do i need to up the humidity for htem like i do with the chickens??
will this little guy be okay on his own?? for a few days at least?? if it hatches i might go buy some more.. they're listed fairly often on craigs list.. and hell... 2 more weeks and i could hatch eggs... lol...
i think he'll be okay in my hampster cage till i figure out what i'm doing with him.... wow i hope it hatches.. then i have an excuse to go ahead and get more quail.. lol...

can quail and pheasants share a run?? maybe with houses on seperate ends or something?? or will i need to fence of part of it to keep them seperate?? the run ( in the process of being fenced in) will be 40' x 6' i want to try to make it a very natural desert type of run... put some good sticks for them to climb and stuff...

guess i need to go research quail some more.. and the pheasants for that matter.. never looked up much info on them.. buti haven't killed them yet.. lol... still don't know what kinf they are...

lol.. i have no clue what it would be... when i saw the one in the yard it was to far away to see any coloring.. just the general quail shape.. and i didn't want to chase it down cause i was hoping it found the alfafa hay and sweetfeed and would decide to stick around... lol...

i spode i'll just turn it with the others adn watch for a pip... i'll have the other hatch bator ready around 14 days just in case...
