Those particular chicks may have those genders, but you cannot tell that by the feather length.Thinking about it. 2 chicks hatched the same day. One with short wing feathers and one with long wing feathers. It makes sense the one with the short wing feathers is the pullet and the one with the long wing feathers is the cockerel. So I agree with my wife.
No matter how much sense it seems to make, those feather lengths do not accurately predict those genders in chickens. EVER.
Most of the time, feather length does not tell gender.
When it does tell gender, it is backwards of what your chicks have.
There is a gene that controls how fast chickens grow their feathers. Either gender can have either form. But just the right cross of parents can produce feather sexable chicks: sons who grow feathers slowly, and daughters who grow feathers fast.
It works because slow feathering is dominant, roosters have sex chromosomes ZZ, and hens have sex chromosomes ZW. (I can explain in more detail if you want to know, but it does not apply to your current chicks.)
