Thanks! I could be wrong too LOL does he have any rust or anything on the wings, saddle, or hackles? You have Many many more points than I, way more, so you could be right.
The grey one has no other coloring, just shades of grey. Thanks! I could be wrong too LOL does he have any rust or anything on the wings, saddle, or hackles?
Hmmm interesting. A lot of BSLs have red leakage. But not all. He could still be one.The grey one has no other coloring, just shades of grey.
If he has single barring, he is probably a BSL. If he has double-barring (more spacing between the black bars), he could be a Barred Rock (the males would carry double barring). I'm guessing that you are correct in your guess that he is a BSL cockerel that snuck through the first gauntlet at the hatchery.I don't think so as he would need to have both parents BR to be pure and then have pure BR chicks. This BSL cockerel probably only has 1 BR or barred parent. I'm guessing this as I'm still learning the genetics.
We have this one, who I think is a cockerel. He "could" be from a BR hen and solid roo or a Barred roo (not BR) and who knows what hen.If he has single barring, he is probably a BSL. Yes, for sure.We have this one, who I think is a cockerel. He "could" be from a BR hen and solid roo or a Barred roo (not BR) and who knows what hen.
First pic is 4.5 wks, second is 7.5 wks, third is 11.5 wks. Would you say it's a cockerel?

Wonder if your 2 y/o SG is actually a Sapphire OE? I've seen some that look just like SG!I purchased her as a 2-3 day old SG from RK.
first pic is 5 wks, second is 7 wks, third is 9 wks, fourth is 13 wks, fifth is 14.5 wks
I ask because the last pic is of our SG? that is 2 years old. She lays greenish eggs not brown. She was hatched from BYM.
I think the young one is a pullet, am I correct?

Though she does not have a crest, not all SGs are the same. The next quote from @Jener8or was the #4 post in this thread.Wonder if your 2 y/o SG is actually a Sapphire OE? I've seen some that look just like SG!
Our 27 month SG was hatched by us with the loan of a broody silkie and eggs from our friend/neighbor. No hatchery but luck of the draw and I'm pleased. One of the Marans mix hens, also lays a greenish eggs as well as this hen, below a BYM that we hatched.Sapphire Gems generally lay light brown eggs, but if a Sapphire Gem was bred with a cockerel or rooster that carried a blue egg gene, their offspring could lay greenish eggs (brown egg gene + blue egg gene = green/olive egg layer or carrier).
