Is This A Stray?

I think it’s just his caution instincts kicking in and reacting to the movement before realizing it’s okay. Have seen former ferals and long time strays do this. Cats are both predator and prey and have instincts/reactions of both. Though, I guess just make sure the areas don’t have a wound just in case. As some cats are hypersensitive, especially on the back, just watch his response. As always, it’s awesome you are helping out, but do please try not to get bitten by accident or otherwise! Sounds like you are sensitive to his behavior and cues so you should be fine :) Good luck!

I wonder if he has pain in his back at all, or he might not fully trust you yet.
Weird thing is that on the day that my family talked about the stray (more like stabed me in the back). He was so cuddly and was constantly rubbing against my hand.
It might be because he doesn't trust me enough. When I was petting him, he was by a bush that he could of used to run away if I tried to pick him up. While at my place he is in the open. Weird thing is that he hates to eat under the old car now. 🤔

Thank you. I will try to look closely to see if there is something wrong tomorrow

I just glanced over this, but if that cat doesn't have an owner, keep 'em! I've had 4 Russian Blues, and they're the SWEETEST CATS OF ALL TIME! I'm not overstating my case. I have a 5-yr old who's been with me for a long time, and he is still a sweet big guy.
Seriously, where I come from, Russian Blues hardly ever come up at the animal shelters, even though they're the best cats. Sorry for being dramatic.
Could you try to get some good photos of him?

I'm allergic to cats too. I wish I could get one. Maybe once he gains your trust more you could give him to a friend or neighbor so you could still see him. That's what i would do at least.
Hope all goes well
